Christopher Nolan asked Hans Zimmer to score Interstellar without sharing the script, instead giving him a one-page fable about a father and child. Inspired by its emotional core, Zimmer composed a deeply personal piece that shaped the film’s music, later explaining: “Chris sent me a letter and said to write whatever came to me. He wouldn’t tell me what the movie was, but he wrote me this fable.”
When he finished composing, Hans asked if he should send it to him. Nolan said: “No, I’m going to come down and hear it.” He went to his studio and after listening to it, he replied: “Well, I’d better make the movie now.”
